HURRAY! It’s GAME DAY!

It’s Fall; it’s Saturday, and college football is on T.V. – YAY!!!

My wife and I LOVE COLLEGE FOOTBALL SATURDAYS! (Can you tell?)

Since the first year we were married, we’ve set aside Saturdays in the Fall to devote to that laced-up, prolate spheroid and the padded participants from one academic institution, who battle the padded participants from another academic institution to move that spheroid up and down a stripe-painted field.

We even have our game day rituals.

We get up early in the morning (and pre-Covid) go to a near-by diner for some breakfast and coffee (or now-Covid) have some breakfast and coffee in bed! (Like our team – we always adapt to our opponent’s game plan.)

Of course that ritual also includes Desmond Howard (UMichigan alum), Kirk Herbstreit (OState alum), and Coach Lee Corso (Not so fast, my friend originator) chatting with us about the day’s games (and of course their prognostications – with which we so often argue!).

Then it’s KICK-OFF time, as our slate of pre-selected (and taped) games begin! We don our gameday attire (and me with my cap), and we settle in snug in our ALWAYS 50-yardline seats to watch their heroic struggles.

We have our favs of course, and we cheer and fist-bump or groan and “surrender-cobra” as their fortunes rise or fall. We tell them what plays to run, criticize the ones that fail, and take credit for the ones that score! (Yes, yes, we sound LIKE HIM…but – hey – WE KNOW football!!)

We scored!!

We even have a half-time ritual for our FAV game of the day – making a large bowl of popcorn as we discuss our second half adjustments for them to use.

As our gameday ends – and weary from our edge-of-the-seat efforts – we fold our game shirts (and I hang up my hat) and we collapse into bed.

Another wonderful fall Saturday done!

(And on Sunday we say: Only six more days ’til gameday!)

Food for thought (and hopefully some smiles).

Mac (and my team-Mate)
